Trainer Robert Heathcote is adamant there's another big performance in his durable stayer Tabulate and he's hoping it unfolds in the Brisbane Cup.

Tabulate turned in a slashing Brisbane Cup trial to narrowly win the $125,000 Group Three Premier's Cup (2200m) at Doomben on Saturday, and Heathcote is mindful it was the horse's 11th start this campaign.

But he's equally aware Tabulate is racing at the peak of his form and is confident regular trips to the beach will keep the five-year-old sharp until he tackles his biggest test in the Brisbane Cup (2400m) on June 12.

"It's two weeks until the Cup and we'll be there on the day," Heathcote said.

"He's been crying out for 2400 metres as he showed by the way he hit the line today and we'll keep taking him to the beach and keeping him fresh in the mind.

"He's a very resilient horse and how nice would it be to win the Brisbane Cup on my home turf."

Superbly ridden by Jim Byrne, Tabulate ($8.50) extended his record to five wins from his past six starts when he dived through late to snatch a short half-head victory over Albertinelli ($21) with Larry's Never Late ($6.50) a short neck back third.

Favourite Hissing Sid ($4) ran well to finish a close-up fourth at his first Brisbane start and his rider Nash Rawiller said he would be better for the experience.

"He was slow away and really one-paced but he went super," Rawiller said.

"He took a while to wind up but his last 100 metres was exceptional.

"I struggled to get him around the tight turns. He'll be better for the experience this way of going and he'll be much better suited on the bigger track at Eagle Farm in the Brisbane Cup."

Blake Shinn, rider of Albertinelli, said he thought he had the race won when he found the front in the shadows of the post.

"He tried very hard all the way to the line," Shinn said.

"When he got through I thought he'd win."
