The merger of Sydney's two race clubs has been given the seal of approval by the ACCC and will be in action as soon as it is passed through the NSW parliament.

Key executive positions for the as yet unnamed club were announced last week in anticipation of the merger between the Australian Jockey Club (AJC) and the Sydney Turf Club (STC).

John Cornish, the current AJC vice-chairman, will be chairman of the nine-man board, STC director Michael Crismale is the vice-chairman while AJC chief executive Darren Pearce will assume the same role at the new club.

All that remains is for Racing Minister Kevin Greene to announce the commencement date of the merged entity.

The new club will receive a cash injection of $174 million, with $150 million to come from the TAB to be spent on major renovations at Randwick Racecourse while the NSW government will provide $24 million for upgrading facilities and access routes to Rosehill Racecourse.

Other remedial work is also scheduled for Canterbury and Warwick Farm racecourses with construction of key infrastructure to begin as soon as possible.
