Talented two-year-old Carved In Stone will put his Brisbane winter carnival credentials on the line when he runs at Rosehill on Saturday.

Trainer Tim Martin said the youngster had done so well since his gallant seventh to Crystal Lily in the Golden Slipper, connections had been convinced to keep him in training.

"He's on trial for Brisbane on Saturday," Martin said.

"He has thrived since the Slipper which is why we're looking at pressing on to Queensland.

"If he wins on Saturday he will run again in Sydney on the 22nd of May then head to Brisbane for the TJ Smith."

Carved In Stone was a rousing third to Masquerader in the Group Two Todman Stakes on debut in March and was doing his best work late in the Slipper at his only other start.

Martin scratched him from Hawkesbury on Saturday after he drew awkwardly but added he was also keen to race him at his home track.

Carved In Stone is one of 18 nominations for the 2YO Hcp (1300m) while Martin is also likely to be represented in the Listed Lord Mayor's Cup (2000m) by Scouting Wide.

The feature race has attracted 21 entries although eight of them, including Scouting Wide, are also in the mix for the Wagga Gold Cup over the same distance a day earlier.

"I'm probably leaning towards Rosehill with him but we'll have a look at the two races and see which one looks easier," Martin said.

The trainer will be represented in the Listed Wagga Cup by Morecambe Bay who will be ridden by Christian Reith.

Scouting Wide's regular rider Tye Angland will partner him in whichever race he contests.

The five-year-old came of age over the late spring and summer winning three races including the Christmas Cup (2400m).

He showed he had returned in good order with an unlucky fifth to Bay Window first-up at Randwick last month.

Martin is also hoping to campaign him in Brisbane but needs to convince his owners first.

"He's not a top class stayer in terms of being a Melbourne Cup horse but I think he'd be a chance in a race like the Brisbane Cup," Martin said.

"I'd like to take him to Brisbane after this but some of his owners want to spell him so I'll have to try to talk them into it."

Fellow Rosehill trainer Chris Waller has entered five horses for the Lord Mayor's Cup including last start Queen Elizabeth Stakes runner-up Triple Honour and imported stayer Warringah.

Group One winner Vision And Power is also there along with the Guy Walter-trained pair of Basaltico and Twin Wing who are both among the nominations for Wagga.
