Scouting Wide will be out to secure a trip north for the Brisbane Cup when he runs in the McKell Cup at Rosehill on Saturday.

Trainer Tim Martin said the five-year-old son of Zabeel would need to perform in the Listed 2400m feature in Sydney for him to earn a shot at the Group Two Brisbane Cup on June 12 over the same journey.

Stablemate Carved In Stone will also be on trial for a Queensland assignment in Saturday's 2YO Handicap over 1400m.

Scouting Wide goes into the McKell Cup third-up and Martin wants the gelding to be ridden positively after he finished 3-3/4 lengths fourth to Sainthood in the Listed Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) on May 7.

"You've got to ride him forward," Martin said.

"You can't hold him up and he's been held up in his past two starts."

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Common Objective also races forward and led when he claimed the $100,000 Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) at Rosehill a day after Scouting Wide raced at Wagga, which could set up an intriguing battle on Saturday.

"Either he (Common Objective) will lead or we'll take it up," Martin said.

"It was only an even run (by Scouting Wide) at Wagga, it didn't excite me, but he's got to be ridden positively."

Scouting Wide has had four starts over 2400m for two wins and a second.

His only failure at the trip was in the Group Three Summer Cup on Boxing Day last year before he was sent for a spell.

The five-year-old will carry the 53kg minimum on Saturday with the Chris Waller-trained Warringah heading the weights with 58kg.

Common Objective has 57kg with Glyn Schofield to ride while Music Review, who was runner-up to Common Objective last start, will carry 56kg.

Talented two-year-old Carved In Stone will resume from a six-week let-up after finishing seventh in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 3 at his most recent start.

Martin had planned to run Carved In Stone over 1300m at Rosehill on May 8 but the youngster got a virus during the week of the race which sidelined him.

Carved In Stone is nominated for the Group One TJ Smith Stakes (1600m) in Brisbane on June 12.

The Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) to be run at Eagle Farm a week earlier is also an option.

"He (Carved In Stone) is also on trial for Brisbane," Martin said.

"If he wins he'll head up there and if he doesn't he'll go to the paddock."

Street Lover is nominated for two races at Rosehill but will step up to 1900m in the Benchmark 80 Handicap, Martin said.
