Trainer Bruce Hill will get an indication of Startsmeup's spring prospects when the talented gelding contests the Group Two Warwick Stakes on Saturday.

Startsmeup is booked on a float to Sydney leaving the Gold Coast on Wednesday night and will be ridden by Hill's son-in-law Paul Hammersley in the 1400m weight-for-age feature.

Hill believes Startsmeup can step up this spring and provide him with his first Group One victory.

Former Melbourne apprentice Jarrod Fry deputised for the holidaying Hammersley when Startsmeup scored an impressive win over 1350 metres at Doomben last month.

Hill has earmarked the Group Two Warwick Stakes as the launch pad for the four-year-old's spring campaign in Sydney but also will be keeping a close watch on Melbourne's weather before deciding if his campaign will be extended to include the Group One Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Flemington.

"I'm not sure how many runs he'll have in Sydney and I'll wait and see how he goes in the Warwick Stakes first," Hill said.

"If he happened to win then we'd have to look at the Epsom Handicap with him."

The Group One Epsom Handicap (1600m) is at Randwick on October 1.

Hill will wait another week before dispatching Grafton Cup winner Warrior Within to Sydney.

Warrior Within followed his Grafton Cup victory last month with a solid performance when runner-up to Fantastic Blue over 2200 metres at Doomben on August 6.

The pair look likely for a rematch in the Group Three Newcastle Cup (2300m) on September 14.

The Wyong Gold Cup on September 1 could also be on Warrior Within's agenda before he heads south for a Victorian country Cups campaign.

"I gave Warrior Within an easy week after his last run as he's had a few tough runs," Hill said.

"He'll probably go to Sydney next week and he could run in the Wyong Cup before the Newcastle Cup."

Hill is excited about Startsmeup's interstate prospects.

The son of Danzero almost caused an upset in Melbourne during the autumn when narrowly beaten by Bullbars in the Group Three C S Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in February.

He was not disgraced next start when 10th to Shamrocker, beaten six lengths, in the Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington in March.

Hill is delighted with the way Startsmeup has come on this campaign and is hoping for his Group One breakthrough with him this spring.

"He's brilliant and has trained on well since his last win," Hill said.

"His work is the best it's been for a long time. He was always very immature but he's older and stronger now and is eating well."
