Trainer Peter Morgan is expecting the brilliant I Am Invincible to lead champion sprinter Takeover Target in Saturday's Goodwood at Morphettville but jockey Darren Gauci says he is prepared to take a sit in the Group One feature.

I Am Invincible has only once run over 1200m, as a two-year-old when last to Meurice in the Group Two Todman Stakes at Rosehill for Sydney trainer Toby Edmonds.

The four-year-old entire has won two of his three starts for Morgan since being transferred after a stint with the Hawkes stable and flew in front when he defeated Goodwood rivals Augusta Proud and Blahnik in the Group Three DC Mackay Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on April 18.

He was handled by Jason Benbow on that occasion, filling in for Gauci who was committed to riding the unplaced Morgan Dollar.

"He arrived in Adelaide early this morning and he travelled well," Morgan said of I Am Invincible.

"I'm hoping he's as good as he was the other day, it's over an extra 100 metres but I'm just hoping that we can perhaps not go so fast so early.

"When he won two starts back over 1000 metres at Caulfield, Darren (Gauci) seemed to think he'd get 1400 metres.

"He did go out a bit too hard last start and probably should have been beaten so we're hoping we don't have to do that on Saturday, especially for the first 150 metres.

"But if they want us to put some speed on for them we will."

I Am Invincible drew barrier five in the 12-horse field with Takeover Target in barrier eight.

If I Am Invincible can upset the odds-on favourite it will have special significance for Morgan.

Apart from giving him his first Group One success it would bring back memories for the former jockey who rode around 200 winners, including two stakeswinners, over 17 years on and off in the saddle.

"I had my first ride at Morphettville when I was 14. It was in a field of 18 and I didn't know what planet I was on," he said.

"I actually should have won a Goodwood. I was going to be a pound overweight on Picargo (the 1967 winner) and I did the right thing and got off so that the horse could have every chance, but the jockey who got on him rode him a pound over and he won."

Gauci is after his third victory in the race having scored on the John Meagher-trained Daring Jon in 1987 and George Hanlon's Boardwalk Angel in 1989.

He was beaten a nose on Tesbury Jack by Let Go Thommo in 2007.

"I worked him (I Am Invincible) on Tuesday morning and he felt good, but Takeover Target is a great horse and he'll be hard to beat," Gauci said.

Gauci said Takeover Target's sectionals were quite quick when he led and won easily from Northern Meteor and Apache Cat in the Group One TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) last start at Randwick.

"If they want to take up the running they can," he said.
