Peter Snowden made it back-to-back wins in his hometown feature when Raspberries stormed through to take out the $180,000 Scone Cup on Friday.
Snowden, who won the 1600m Listed feature for the first time last year with Dysphonia, then heaped praise on the concept of the country carnivals as a record crowd of 10,023 was trackside in Australia's breeding heartland.
Raspberries ($9) came from midfield as Kerrin McEvoy plotted a course to victory with the honest mare defeating Izababe ($17) by a long neck with the same margin to the well-backed favourite Lightinthenite ($2.25) third.
Snowden is head trainer for Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation in Australia and is based in Sydney but grew up and started his career at Scone, including riding in a Scone Cup.
"On the score of importance for Darley it probably doesn't rate anywhere," Snowden said.
"But for me it's like a hometown cup. It's very special.
"I had a breakfast today with people I hadn't seen for years and so to come back and win their feature race, it's a good thing.
"They are not easy to win so to win it two years in a row is fantastic."
Snowden admitted to being worried mid-race as he thought McEvoy had drifted too far back in the field from a good barrier draw.
"I've got to put my hand up and say I was grabbing Kerrin by the throat at the half-mile (800m). I thought he had gone back one pair too many," Snowden said.
"But he knew what he was doing and it was a good result."
Snowden claimed a stakes double at last year's two-day carnival with victory in the Listed Dark Jewel Classic on the Saturday to Shannara.
That mare leads a three-pronged attack in the same race this year with the meeting replacing a metropolitan fixture.
Snowden is a big fan of the stand-alone concept for country race tracks.
"Look at this crowd here today," Snowden said.
"Ask anyone here today if they'd like to have another one. The country is begging for these sorts of meetings. I'm all in favour of it. Placed right, they are a huge success."
Raspberries has now won seven of her 19 starts including three at stakes level and Snowden hasn't ruled giving her a crack at the Group One Tatt's Tiara in Brisbane during the winter.
"She's such an honest mare, you wouldn't rule anything out for her," he said.
