Gold Coast trainer Stephen Lowe believes Showify has his hoof on the till to break his winning drought in the Listed Brisbane Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Showify has not won since January 19 when the five-year-old was successful over 1800 metres at Eagle Farm but his recent form suggests he is close to notching his eighth career win from 30 starts in Saturday's 1600-metre feature.
Lowe, 46, had some big shoes to fill when he took over his father-in-law Kaye Tinsley's stables following his retirement two years ago.
"I've had 18 winners in two years with a stable of between eight and 10 horses," Lowe said.
"I'm going well and I've still got only eight in work."
Lowe, who spent 20 years as Tinsley's foreman, still seeks advice from the former Kiwi trainer who is currently visiting friends in New Zealand.
Lowe has warned track conditions will determine if Showify attempts to end his losing streak.
Eagle Farm was rated a dead five at acceptance time on Thursday but threatening skies worry Lowe despite a forecast for fine weather on Friday.
"He's better on top of the ground and he won't run if we get rain and the track is heavy," Lowe said.
"He's won on a heavy track before but that was in a weak race when he was going through his grades.
"I'll probably run him if the track is slow but not on anything worse."
Showify has been threatening to win at his past four starts, including his last two outings when an unlucky fourth to Prosecution in a 1500-metre Open at Eagle Farm on October 18 and a last-start second to Hard To Catch in a 1615-metre Open at Doomben on November 1.
"He's been a bit unlucky lately and could easily have won his last two starts," Lowe said.
"He had the outside barrier last start and got too far back then got held up for 50 metres approaching the home turn.
"The day he ran fourth at Eagle Farm he was held up again and only got into the clear 250 metres out."
Lowe has always had a big opinion of Showify but conceded he's struggled to win over the past 12 months.
"He hasn't won for a while but he's in open company now and he can't afford to make any mistakes," he said.
Lowe has named NSW visitor Alverta as the main threat to Showify who will again head to the Magic Millions carnival at the Gold Coast in January.
"I'm planning to run him in the Stayers Cup again and if he goes well I'll aim him for the winter carnival races next year," he said.
"He's not quite up to the top level but he's good enough for the second-tier races during the winter."
Showify produced an eye-catching performance in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) in March when he flashed home for third to Victorian Drizzle who claimed successive wins in the Gold Coast feature.
