Equine influenza (EI) delayed the start of Storm Kite's career but the mare is off and running much to the delight of trainer Ron Quinton.
The Honours List four-year-old is having her second start in the Freeway Super TAB Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on Wednesday.
Storm Kite comes into the race after winning on debut over 1300 metres at Kembla Grange on May 2.
The mare is a half-sister to the Quinton-trained stakeswinning stayer Prophet's Kiss who finished second to Mr. Prudent in the 2001 Sydney Cup (3200m).
Prophet's Kiss won the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Randwick in 2000.
"I didn't have her (Storm Kite) originally, she was in Melbourne for a while and then she got tangled up in EI and that put her back," Quinton said.
"A few months ago her owners Brian and Jan Whinnen, who also raced Prophet's Kiss, asked me if I'd give Storm Kite an opportunity.
"I had intended to go to another provincial race but there was nothing suitable out there for her.
"It's a step in grade but she raced professionally the other day and we're just hoping for the best."
Quinton also hopes Storm Kite will emerge as a staying prospect.
"All her sister could do was stay but she was a reluctant chaser and always left it too late to get going," Quinton said.
"But Storm Kite has more early speed than her sister."
Josh Parr retains the ride on Storm Kite.
Quinton, who won eight Sydney jockeys' premierships, rates the young rider highly.
"I've always had a good opinion of Josh and have helped him out when I can and he's been in great form recently," Quinton said.
"The day he rode Storm Kite he had three winners and then a double at the Hawkesbury Saturday meeting and then had a double at Goulburn on the Thursday."
Two-year-old stablemate Jerrykooler runs in the opening race of the day, the Freeway Hotel Artarmon Handicap (1400m).
The Belong To Me gelding ran ninth to Winter King on debut at Gosford over 1000 metres on May 7.
"He was only fair the other day and did a few things wrong and if he can run a creditable race I'll be happy," Quinton said.
