Blake Shinn will ride promising two-year-old filly Jesse's Girl in the Group Two Champagne Classic at Doomben on Saturday.

Trainer Peter Morgan said the daughter of Choisir arrived safely in Brisbane on Friday and Saturday's feature 1200m feature would prime her for the Group Two Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) on June 5.

"The Sires over 1400 metres is probably her main mission," Morgan said.

Jesse's Girl has raced four times and after two educating runs last year beat Broadway Harmoney first-up at Sandown on April 24.

A week later Broadway Harmony reversed the placings beating Jesse's Girl in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide but Morgan has no doubts that his filly should have won again.

He said that while a good beginner, Jesse's Girl could be sluggish getting in to full stride and was her own worst enemy.

"Whether she was a certainty beaten last start is hard to say because it was a bit of her own fault," Morgan said.

"She seemed to jump pretty well but for the first 30 metres she was a bit like a hurdler."

He said it was the second time Jesse's Girl had failed to muster early speed, having lacked early pace at her race debut when fourth to Star Witness at Moonee Valley in November.

Morgan said that her debut confirmed for him that Jesse's Girl was above average.

"She only got beaten 2-1/2 lengths by Star Witness who won the Blue Diamond so we always thought she only had to improve a little bit," Morgan said.

He said Jesse's Girl raced best when ridden off the pace and Shinn would be instructed to stick to the plan.

"She is such a quiet filly I don't want to change her racing pattern," Morgan said.

He said Jesse's Girl was looking for 1400 metres but he still expected her to be hitting the line hard in the Champagne Classic.

Meanwhile Morgan has taken over the training of Douro Valley who was second to his former stablemate Master O'Reilly in the 2007 Caulfield Cup.

"He has been in work and is having a couple of weeks rest before we get serious with him," Morgan said.

The eight-year-old, formerly trained by Danny O'Brien, hasn't raced since finishing last in the Group One Yalumba Stakes at Caulfield in October and is recovering from a variety of problems including a stripped hamstring.

"I have been pretty happy with him and he doesn't have a lot of issues there at the moment," Morgan said.
