Favourite All Silent remains on track for the Newmarket Handicap despite missing a scheduled barrier trial with a sore foot.
The gelding was due to continue his build up towards next month's Group One sprint with a 990m trial at Cranbourne on Monday but was scratched when he was found to have bruised a heel.
Trainer Grahame Begg was in Melbourne on Monday morning before catching a flight back to Sydney and said while the setback was not serious, he did not want to take any undue risks.
"He had a bit of bruising in one of his heels so we decided not to trial him," Begg said.
"He worked this morning but I just think it was a different thing for him to go to a trial.
"You don't want to be putting them under pressure, they've got to be one hundred per cent right."
All Silent has not raced since finishing a luckless eighth to Sacred Kingdom in the Hong Kong International Sprint in December.
He is the $4.50 Newmarket favourite with TAB Sportsbet following the news last week that brilliant filly Black Caviar has been ruled out of the autumn with a leg injury.
Begg said missing Monday's trial was not the end of the world and All Silent would instead compete in a jump out at Flemington on Friday.
"I'm not too concerned at the moment," he said.
"Normally these things settle down with a bit of looking after."
The Group One Newmarket Handicap (1200m) is at Flemington on March 6.
