Nathan Tinkler has cast his net far and wide to build his Patinack Farm racing and breeding empire with Chilean filly Scarlet to make her first Australian appearance in the Newcastle Newmarket.

A Group One winner in her former homeland, Scarlet will have nine rivals in the Group Three race over 1400 metres, one of the traditional lead-ups to the Doncaster.

Scarlet is not among the Doncaster entries but has been nominated for the BMW (2400m) on April 4.

Just how far she goes this preparation will be determined by what she does at Newcastle.

"This will tell us where we are at with her," Patinack racing manager Mark Webbey said.

"She is a nice filly and a Group One winner but it is hard to line up her form."

Scarlet will be ridden by Peter Robl who has been aboard for both her barrier trials.

"She is a lovely little thing," Robl said.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Ashikaga was posted the $1.80 favourite by TAB Sportsbet on Monday ahead of Makybe Diva's little brother Musket at $5.

Chasm was next at $6.50 with Solo Flyer at $7.50.

All four are among the entries for the Doncaster (1600m) on April 11 with Chasm trying to make up for his unlucky run in the Liverpool City Cup in which he finished eighth after striking interference in the straight.

Scarlet is a $41 chance for the Newmarket with topweight Newton's Rings a $26 chance.
