Trainer Gary Portelli has switched his Group One attention to the autumn and the AJC Australian Oaks with Rose Of Peace after losing Gold Trail for the summer to injury.

The winner of the Railway Stakes in New Zealand on New Year's Day, Gold Trail was being prepared to defend the Group One sprint but succumbed to a muscle injury which first occurred in England in June when he failed at Royal Ascot.

Although still a maiden, Rose Of Peace staked her claims as a filly with a future with a fast closing fourth in the Wakeful Stakes on October 30.

She finished 1-1/2 lengths from the winner Brazilian Pulse who went on to claim the VRC Oaks five days later while Rose Of Peace went for a short break.

"She will be back in the stables at the end of the week after a short break," Portelli said.

"She wasn't in the original entries for the VRC Oaks because she had a few problems. There was a joint issue with a fetlock sprain when the nominations closed.

"We treated her and had her in ice bandages etcetera and she came good.

"But the late entry fee for the Oaks closed on the Thursday before the Wakeful and it was $55,000.

"That's a lot of money. I don't know why they VRC do it that way and don't wait until after the Wakeful and why it's so much.

"I think she would have run a placing in the Oaks but now she's had a break and we'll aim for Sydney and maybe Brisbane."

Rena's Lady gave Portelli his first Group One win when she claimed the 2007 AJC Australian Oaks.

Rose Of Peace is by Hussonet out of stakes winner Rose O'War, second in the 1998 Wakeful and VRC Oaks behind Grand Archway.

"There's plenty in her pedigree to suggest she will stay a distance," Portelli said.

"Hopefully she can show that in the autumn."
