It seems only fitting that a race named the Fireball Quality be won by a horse capable of scorching the turf.

And that horse could just be blueblood Rogano, the Redoute's Choice colt Paul Messara describes as probably the fastest horse he has trained.

The Fireball Quality (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday will be Rogano's first race for 35 weeks after making a big impression in trials and on debut last season.

Messara was only able to race Rogano once as a two-year-old and he won impressively at Canterbury by 2-1/2 lengths in June last year.

The trainer planned to step the colt up to stakes company in the spring but setbacks forced him to wait until the autumn to get him back to the track.

Asked what Rogano's best asset as a racehorse was, Messara pointed to the colt's speed.

"He has lightning gate speed," Messara said.

"I think he's the fastest horse I've had, just in terms of his raw speed. He's the fastest-actioned horse - he's pure speed really."

The Fireball has attracted 10 acceptors including the John Thompson-trained Honest Truth and Gerald Ryan's Hus Der Lieften as well as the John O'Shea-trained St Augustine who was an impressive winner in a midweek event at Randwick last start.

Messara said he'd had a few minor setbacks with Rogano throughout his career but has the horse fit and sound for his first run back.

"He's a really nice horse, he's had a couple of minor setbacks and we've had to take our time a bit with him" he said.

"It's going to be interesting on Saturday because he's been off for a while.

"We haven't trialled him publicly but he's had a couple of nice gallops at home.

"I'm confident he's on target, we're happy with him and he's going into the race fit and sound."

Rogano is a full-brother to Not A Single Doubt who won four of his 10 starts including the Listed Canonbury and Zeditave Stakes.
