A brilliant frontrunning ride by Nash Rawiller helped Gold Water to an easy win in the Angus Armanasco Stakes and trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident the filly can repeat the dose in the Kewney Stakes at Flemington.

The Choisir filly, who has won five of her nine starts, has pleased Waterhouse since she has been in Melbourne and the leading Sydney trainer believes she can make it successive Group Two victories in Saturday's 1600m event following her dominant victory over Gallica, Miss Scarlatti and Reverberates at Caulfield.

"I'm delighted with Gold Water," Waterhouse said.

"She skips over the ground, she's so light on her feet.

"Her win the other day when Nash controlled the race was very commanding. Her runs before that were very solid, she should be very competitive."

Gold Water, who drew barrier two in the nine-horse field, is out to join the likes of Zarita (2008), Ballet Society (2005), Special Harmony (2004), Elegant Fashion (2002), Northwood Plume (1995) and Bravita (1980) who all completed the Armanasco-Kewney double.

Mick Price is expecting a big run from Thousand Guineas winner Gallica who finished 2-1/4 lengths runner-up behind Gold Water in the Armanasco.

"I wouldn't say she's been set for the Kewney but she has had two runs in and there will be no excuses tomorrow if she can't win," he said.

"I thought she was underdone at Caulfield, she's probably going to go to the Australasian Oaks in Adelaide after the Kewney and probably head to Sydney that way.

"While we had her fit last spring, this time she has a lot of racing in front of her. Certainly she's bigger and she was a little bit fatter but she's had a couple of really good gallops since Gold Water beat her the other day and I'm hoping she can turn the tables."

Mark Kavanagh believes Lamarr is also well and truly in the mix after her half-length second to Romneya in the Group Two Fillies Classic (1500m) at Moonee Valley on February 14 which followed her seven-length win over 1600m at the Valley on February 6.

The Lee Freedman-trained Romneya is $4.60 second favourite for the Group Two Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

"What price Romneya if she's in it (the Kewney). She (Lamarr) finished it off pretty well last start at Moonee Valley when she came back in trip from the 1600 metres to the 1500 metres and she'll appreciate the sting out of the ground," Kavanagh said.

Gold Water is $3.20 favourite in TAB Sportsbet's fixed odds market ahead of Gallica ($3.40), who would give champion jockey Damien Oliver his seventh Kewney win, with Lamarr at $5 and Bubble Below and Miss Scarlatti at $8.
