Patinack Farm's stable jockey Peter Robl switched to another powerful camp in the opening race at Rosehill to ride for Darley trainer Peter Snowden, and the popular jockey did the maroon and white colours proud with a win aboard juvenile Blackball.

The victory gave Snowden two winners in two states within 20 minutes after the victory of two-year-old debutant Secession at Sandown.

Blackball ($9) was given a lovely run by Robl, travelling third on the fence for most of the trip before the Canny Lad youngster quickly put paid to his opposition to score by 1-1/2 lengths from Poker Night ($21) with Bombay ($4.20) 1-3/4 lengths third in the True Solutions International Handicap (1100m).

Salutations, the $2.70 favourite, was fifth after jumping slowly and never threatening.

Snowden's foreman Brad Widdup was impressed with Robl's ride.

"He's a hard-working jockey who rides winners and Peter (Snowden) is happy to use him, he showed why he is a very highly-rated rider today," Widdup said.

"Peter doesn't ride work for us or anything like that and has only had a couple of rides now and that was his first winner for us. He was supposed to ride Pinatas for us last week but we scratched the horse.

"Kerrin McEvoy and Josh Parr are our main two riders."

Robl was impressed with the effort and expected nothing but a good performance from Blackball.

"It was a very professional effort, that's what you get with these Darley horses," Robl said.
