Dealer Principal is a horse close to Peter Robl's heart and the jockey can't wait to be back aboard him under race conditions on Saturday.

The highly talented but injury-plagued galloper makes his comeback in the Group Two Warwick Stakes (1400m) with Robl hoping to post a victory on the gelding for the first time since the 2008 Rosehill Guineas.

Dealer Principal's Guineas win was Robl's first at Group One level and the jockey is excited about his return after venturing to Randwick to get a feel for the Anthony Cummings-trained runner in trackwork last week.

Robl's last race ride on Dealer Principal was in the 2008 Emirates Stakes in Melbourne.

"I'm looking forward to riding him, it's been a while," the jockey said.

"I went and had a feel of him last Tuesday and his action was good, he felt good and his work was strong.

"That all points to him running a good race tomorrow."

After winning the Rosehill Guineas at his fifth start and finishing fourth in the AJC Australian Derby a run later, Dealer Principal was touted as a future star.

However, injuries in recent years have prevented him from trying to build on his lone Group One victory.

Dealer Principal suffered a fracture at the back of his knee in a trackwork accident in late 2008 which kept him off the scene for the whole of the following year.

A brilliant first-up win at Randwick in January signalled the son of Flying Spur could again be a force, but another injury setback then ruled him out of the autumn carnival.

Robl said Dealer Principal had the ability to compete at the top level and it was just a matter of him remaining injury-free.

"You've always got a soft spot for a horse that's done something for your career, and he did," Robl said.

"On his best form he would definitely be a chance in the race (on Saturday)."

If everything goes to plan, Cummings has indicated a Sydney and Melbourne preparation is on the cards for Dealer Principal with a shot at the Cox Plate the major goal.

The Warwick Stakes - with eight individual Group One winners engaged - is undoubtedly the highlight of the Warwick Farm program but the meeting also has a strong support card with four other stakes races including the Listed Show County Quality (1200m) in which Robl will ride joint favourite Neeson.

The runaway Hawkesbury Guineas winner is being aimed at the Epsom Handicap by trainer Joe Pride and Robl has been pleased with his progress in his two barrier trials.

The jockey is unbeaten in two rides on the son of Mossman, including his 4-1/2 length Hawkesbury win.

"He was extremely impressive that day," Robl said.

"I rode him aggressively and he put them away on the corner, giving a glimpse of what he might be able to do (this preparation)."
