"Bring on the Diamond," was the confident call from trainer Steve Richards after his super filly Rostova won the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies at Caulfield on Sunday.

Jockey Steven King was just as enthusiastic as Richards about the unbeaten filly's chances in Victoria's richest two-year-old race, the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes on February 24.

King was content to let Rostova balance up in fifth place and bring her four wide around the leaders at the home turn.

He just gave her a little shake-up in the straight and she quickly put the issue beyond doubt.

"Once I got her to balance up I just kept her happy," King said.

"There was no point in her doing more then she had to because her grand final is in two weeks."

At the same time, Richards had not entirely ruled out Rostova being eased after the Blue Diamond and then having a crack at the $3.5 million Golden Slipper.

"She'll only improve again after that run," Richards said.

While Rostova was always at odds-on for the Prelude, there was spirited support for the Mick Price-trained Corsaire to beat her.

Corsaire firmed from $5.50 to $4.60 and Damien Oliver rode her perfectly going to the lead at the top of the straight but although she held on gamely she was no match for the winner.

Being eased down on the line, Rostova ($1.60) cruised home by two lengths from Corsaire with Rose Darmore ($21) a length and a quarter away third.

Richards said he was not concerned when the backing came for Corsaire.

"I had seen her tapes (when she won at Sandown in the spring) and I thought if she beats us, I'll give up," Richards said.

His one reservation going into the Blue Diamond is that she'll be "taking on the boys" for the first time.

Rostova ran the 1100m on a dead rated track in 1:04.54, coming home her last 600m in 34.58s.
