Jim Conlan is using Saturday's McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley to gauge the level well-bred gelding Rekindled Interest is at with the $1 million Caulfield Guineas in mind.

Conlan has recently taken over as the number one trainer for Jon Munz's Pinecliff Racing Syndicate.

"He's nominated for the (Caulfield) Guineas and it'll work itself out. We'll work out what level he's at," Conlan said.

"I'd say he's going to be very effective up to a mile (1600m). It's just a matter of what level he gets to."

Rekindled Interest is by champion stallion Redoute's Choice and is from the same family as Grey Swallow who is now standing at stud in Victoria.

Prepared by Dermot Weld, Grey Swallow won twice at Group One level in the 2004 Irish Derby and the 2005 Tattersalls Gold Cup, both at the Curragh.

He also won the 2006 Group Two Jim Murray Memorial at Hollywood Park in the US and was named champion older horse in Ireland that year.

He was sold to Peter Rowsthorn and ran last to Fields Of Omagh in the 2006 Cox Plate when trained by Dale Sutton, and was subsequently retired to stand at Woodside Park Stud.

Rekindled Interest has had just one start to date, winning a Bendigo two-year-old maiden over 1000m on March 18 when prepared by Rod Douglas who is now Pinecliff's racing manager.

Top jockey Craig Williams takes the mount on Rekindled Interest who drew barrier two in the 12-horse field.

Meanwhile, jockey Nick Hall said his mount Hollowlea had a race fitness edge on seven of his 11 rivals who are resuming from spells.

"He'll be competitive at this grade. He should've won first-up," Hall said.

"He has a fitness edge on a lot of them but the barrier (11) is going to be the trouble from the 1200 metres there."

The Hidden Dragon colt, prepared by Terry O'Sullivan and his daughter Karina at Stawell, was disappointed for a run when a first-up fourth to Dutchy's Lass over 1200m at the Valley on July 24 before winning over the same trip at Morphettville on August 7.

The Peter Moody-trained Redoute's Choice colt Achievements is $4 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of In Faith ($4.80), Blue Diamond Preview winner Innocent Gamble ($6) with Anacheeva at $7 and Bullbars at $7.50.

Hollowlea is a $21 chance.
