SATURDAY'S Memsie Stakes at Caulfield looms as the most crucial day in the short racing career of Rekindled Interest, reports The Age.

It says: While his Cox Plate aspirations are on hold pending this performance, he already has an impressive dress rehearsal to his credit.

Rekindled Interest's trainer, Jim Conlan, said yesterday the four-year-old's weight-for-age debut on Saturday was a crossroad that would dictate his path this spring. He has scope to go right to the top or be demoted out of the A-league back to handicaps. Conlan said his inkling was that Rekindled Interest would prove himself and there are precedents for him to do so. In the eight times punters have seen Rekindled Interest race, his best performance came in the group 2 AAMI Vase over the Cox Plate distance of 2040 metres on Cox Plate day last year when he ran away from subsequent Victoria Derby winner Lion Tamer.

Carrying 57 kilograms, or 8.5 kilograms above the weight-for-age mark he would have carried if he'd run in the Cox Plate, he ran 0.36 seconds quicker than So You Think who, carrying his weight-for-age impost of 57.5 kilograms, won his second Cox Plate later in the day.
