Gai Waterhouse has a plan to ensure Saturday's Listed Frank Underwood Cup is truly run and not a benefit race for Rainbow Styling.
The premier trainer expects Nash Rawiller to be at his aggressive best aboard Rabbuka in the 2000 metre feature at Rosehill.
Rawiller takes over from Blake Shinn aboard Rabbuka who comes into the race after a disappointing unplaced run in the Listed Tattersalls Cup won by Rainbow Styling over Saturday's distance at Randwick on New Years Day.
The beaten favourite travelled second for most the way behind unlikely leader Delago Star before fading to finish sixth.
Prior to that Rabbuka was a close fourth with Rawiller aboard in the Group Two Villiers Stakes after settling third behind tearaway leader Rags To Riches.
Two weeks earlier Rabbuka dictated terms when he led all the way in the Listed Festival Stakes at Rosehill.
"He's definitely not a sit and sprint horse and we've found that Rainbow Styling is an extremely good sit and sprint horse," Waterhouse's manager Robyn Hartney said.
"The only way we can beat him is to make it an extremely tough, strong-run 2000 metres.
"Most of his (Rabbuka's) wins have been when he's been ridden very very aggressively early."
Rainbow Styling, who is trained by the Hawkes partnership, has won his past two starts.
The Zabeel gelding was given a lovely ride from a good alley (four) just off the speed throughout in the Tattersalls Cup by Jim Cassidy.
But Rainbow Styling has drawn awkwardly in barrier nine while Rabbuka jumps from gate four.
"They'll have to do their speed maps and work out whether to go forward or slot in somewhere," Hartney said.
"We've drawn well and we'll let him roll at the 500 metres like he usually does.
"When you go too slow over these distances and you've got a nice sit and sprint stayer in the race, they will always win."
Hartney said there were no plans to send Rabbuka around in the Listed Australia Day (2400m) Cup at Randwick.
"He's a 1600 metre to 2000 metre horse, that's where we see him at the moment," Hartney said.
One horse who is going to the Australia Day Cup is classy Anthony Cummings-trained stayer Zavite, who lines up in the Underwood.
Zavite ran an eye-catching fourth in the Tattersalls Cup in his first start since being unplaced in the Melbourne Cup.
The quality of the Tatt's Cup run prompted Cummings to consider a crack at the Group One Auckland Cup (3200m) in March.
Zavite was runner-up in the 2009 Hobart Cup before winning both the Launceston and Adelaide Cups.
Cummings is sending Zavite back to Tasmania after the Australia Day Cup before weighing whether the stayer goes to New Zealand.
