Damien Oliver and Darren Beadman are the frontrunners to ride Pompeii Ruler in the $2.8 million Singapore Airlines International Cup if Craig Newitt fails to have a careless riding suspension reduced on appeal next week.

Newitt lodged an appeal with Queensland Racing Limited on Tuesday against the severity of a 10-meeting suspension incurred in the Listed Prime Minister's Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast last Saturday.

He did not seek a stay of proceedings.

Newitt rode the Mick Price-trained Rightfully Yours who was relegated to second on protest.

He pleaded guilty to the careless riding charge but appealed in the hope of having his sentence reduced to enable him to ride Pompeii Ruler, last-start winner of the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes, in the Singapore International Cup on May 17.

Price will wait until Newitt's appeal is heard next Tuesday but has spoken to Beadman about riding Pompeii Ruler in Singapore while Oliver rode the six-year-old in a Caulfield gallop on Tuesday.

"I'll wait and see the outcome of Craig's appeal first but Damien Oliver rode him work today while Darren Beadman also has been spoken to about the ride," Price said.

"No decision has been made either way who will ride Pompeii Ruler if Craig can't."

Price said Rightfully Yours would miss Saturday's Group One BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben which marks the return to Brisbane of last year's winner Apache Cat, who will be ridden by Oliver.

Apache Cat narrowly beat Adelaide mare Vormista in last year's BTC Cup before going on to win the Group One Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Rightfully Yours will have his next start in the Group Three BTC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben on May 16.

"I want to get his weight up so he can run in the Stradbroke and I don't want to do that by chasing weight-for-age horses," Price said.

Price is reluctant to start the Show A Heart gelding in the Group One Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 23 in which he already plans to run Light Fantastic.

"He would have to win the BTC Sprint to run in the 10,000 and I'd rather look at the Stradbroke with him," he said.

Price has a team of four horses in Queensland for the winter but they will be joined by Dorabella who finished second in a barrier trial at Caulfield on Tuesday.

The former New Zealander is a dual Group One winner over 1600 metres in the 1000 Guineas at Riccarton in November 2006 and Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham in October the following year.

The five-year-old, who hasn't started since finishing third in the Listed Seymour Cup (1600m) last October, is headed towards the Group One Winter Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June.

Price's only starter at Doomben on Saturday will be last year's South Australian Oaks winner Queen Of Queens in the Group Three Chairman's Handicap (2020m).

No rider has been confirmed for Queen Of Queens but Jim Cassidy has been approached.
