Predatory Pricer warmed up for his Group One assignment in Saturday's Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick with an encouraging track gallop on Tuesday.

The Street Cry colt, who is a half brother to international sprint star Takeover Target, is the $3.50 equal favourite with Rhyno Chaser for the 2000 metre race.

Predatory Pricer is trainer Paul Murray's first Group One runner and he said he couldn't wait for the weekend.

"I couldn't be happier with him, he did a bit of light work over 2000 metres this morning and finished off the gallop strongly," Murray said.

"It's going to be a great day, there'll be a big crowd for sure and I'm really looking forward to watching him race.

"He's running a trip that he's given us every indication he wants to run after stepping up 1800 metres last start and doing it easily."

In his last start Predatory Pricer stormed home to defeat Stalingrad by a neck in the Group Three Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill on September 20.

Prior to that he defeated Caymans by a long head in the Ming Dynasty (1400m).

"He's just been doing enough to win lately and hasn't really opened up yet," Murray said.

"He's done it so comfortably in his last two starts but we might see him really going on with it on Saturday."

Regular jockey Glyn Schofield, who has three wins from four rides on Predatory Pricer, is back on board.

"Glyn knows the horse so well and that always gives you an advantage in any race and gives me confidence knowing that I'm leaving the horse in more than capable hands," Murray said.

The Kevin Moses-trained Rhyno Chaser is backing up after holding on to defeat Emperor Bonaparte by a half neck in the Listed Dulcify Quality Handicap (1800m) at Randwick last Saturday.

"He went out of the gates hard in that race and was stopping in the last 50 metres and I'm confident we've got him covered," Murray said.

The Kembla Grange trainer said the plan was to give Predatory Pricer a spell after the Spring Champion Stakes and save him for the AJC Australian Derby in the autumn.

His father Bede won the 2400-metre race with Universal Prince in 2001.

"It'd be nice if I could join Dad as a Group winning trainer on Saturday...I've got the horse to do it," Murray said.
