John Thompson, the long-time foreman for Bart Cummings, is expected to start his training career with Patinack Farm by the end of the month.

His appointment is part of the restructuring of Nathan Tinkler's thoroughbred empire that will result in Patinack's 140 boxes at Warwick Farm being split between Thompson and current head trainer Jason Coyle.

Thompson, 35, is the son of former Crown Lodge trainer Vic Thompson and spent years as foreman at his father's stable before holding the same position with Cummings for almost a decade.

General manager of Patinack, Rick Connolly, was thrilled to have Thompson on board.

"We think of it more like a valued addition than a reshuffle," Connolly said.

"Jason has done a fantastic job and will continue to be an integral part of our team.

"Our belief is the best way for us to get our horses through the system is to have the two operations working side by side with each other and numbers will be split 50-50.

"Nathan spoke to me last night and thinks John should be right to start within the month."

Connolly said the move should not be viewed as a demotion for Coyle who trained Onemorenomore to victory in the Group One Champagne Stakes in April for Patinack.

"We're not taking horses from Jason, we're just pushing the horses who haven't raced through the system as quickly as possible," Connolly said.

"Due to the sheer weight of numbers we have, we believe the best way we can do it is by having another trainer.

"John has a rich history in racing from working with his father when Vic was with the Inghams and then of course his experience with Bart.

"He brings a lot to the table for Patinack."
