Palacio De Cristal is one of six horses set to back up from the Doncaster into Saturday's Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

But while there might be queries over how some of her rivals handle the quick turnaround, trainer Grahame Begg has no such concerns with his mare.

"She won the Villiers off a back-up," Begg said.

"She's in good shape. I've done very little with her this week, she's just had a trot and canter and a swim."

Palacio De Cristal finished 10th to Queen Elizabeth rival Rangirangdoo in the Doncaster Mile (1600m) last Saturday in an effort Begg described as "even".

However, the conditions were against her as she drew barrier three and the Randwick track, although rated dead, was shifty and jockeys steered away from the fence.

With fine weather forecast for the remainder of this week, Begg is hoping his mare gets her preferred firm going this weekend.

"If we're going to get a good track this is going to be the time, the forecast is good and the rail is out seven metres," Begg said.

"As long as they don't interfere with irrigation."

Peter Wells will again pilot Palacio De Cristal in the Queen Elizabeth (2000m) which has attracted a final field of nine.

The only runners not backing up from last weekend are Lee Freedman-trained import Doctor Fremantle and Kiwi raiders Vosne Romanee and Monaco Consul.

Rangirangdoo will take his place provided he continues to please trainer Chris Waller this week.

Waller will be on a spring fact-finding mission with the gelding as the jury is still out on whether he runs a strong 2000 metres.

At his only two tries at the trip Rangirangdoo was a disappointing seventh in the Mackinnon Stakes last October before reigniting hopes he could develop into a Cox Plate horse with a game second to Theseo in the Ranvet Stakes in March.

Palacio De Cristal is also unproven at the distance, finishing down the track in the Storm Queen Stakes (2000m) and AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) last autumn.

"Her only two tries at 2000 metres and further were on wet tracks," Begg said.

"So we don't know if she can run it or she can't.

"Personally, I think she's probably a miler but Saturday is as good a day as any to try her."

Damien Oliver was earlier this week granted a release from Monaco Consul to ride Doncaster runner-up Road To Rock in the Queen Elizabeth, paving the way for Jay Ford to be reunited with the Kiwi colt.

Ford won the Spring Champion Stakes aboard Monaco Consul but has not been aboard him since.
