Trainer Grahame Begg has given an insight into the autumn potential of lightly-raced filly Palacio De Cristal by naming Australia's only Group One 2400-metre weight-for-age race as a serious target.

"It's not out of the question that she may start in the BMW," Begg said.

Begg has all but finalised Palacio De Cristal's autumn program starting with a shot at the colts and geldings in the Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Palacio De Cristal has been nominated for three Rosehill races but Begg said he was certain accept for the Hobartville.

"I put her in the other races as a precaution against missing out on a run in the Hobartville but looking at the ratings for the race she should get a start," he said.

Begg is also planning to start Palacio De Cristal against the three-year-old males in the Randwick Guineas and Rosehill Guineas before taking on all comers in the $2.25 million BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on April 4.

"It's a program aimed at getting a decent amount of miles in her legs in the best possible way," Begg said.

"If we play our cards right, she'll be right at her top for a race like the BMW."

Begg's decision to start Palacio De Cristal in the Hobartville in preference to next week's Surround Stakes puts her on a different autumn path from Australia's benchmark filly Samantha Miss.

"I didn't want to wait three weeks between runs with my filly," Begg said.

Begg has always held Palacio De Cristal in high regard as a staying prospect.

He announced AJC Australian Oaks plans for the filly after she ended an interrupted spring campaign with a Flemington win during last year's Melbourne Cup carnival.

"The Oaks is still on the agenda. The only thing we have changed is how she gets there," Begg said.

Palacio De Cristal is the only filly among 20 nominations for the Group Two Hobartville which are headed by in-form Sydneysider Youthful Jack.

In what is shaping as one of the best three-year-old races of the season, other entries include Group One winners Rebel Raider, Sousa and Fully Fledged.

Gloaming Stakes winner Predatory Pricer, runner-up to Sousa in the Spring Champion Stakes, is on track for his autumn return in the race.

Glyn Schofield will continue his association with Predatory Pricer with Begg booking Tim Clark to ride Palacio De Cristal.

Schofield was aboard Palacio Cristal in her maiden win on the Kensington track at Randwick last year and when she resumed with a sound midfield placing in the Light Fingers Stakes.
