A one-horse trainer from Deagon proved dreams do come true in racing when emerging sprinter Drenalin downed a top-class field in Saturday's $175,000 Listed Prime Minister's Cup at the Gold Coast.

James Lyons, a 32-year-old real estate agent who dabbles in racehorses, heaped praise on his wife Sharon and suspended jockey Brad Stewart after Drenalin shot into Stradbroke Handicap calculations with his powerful win in the 1300m feature.

"I owe all of this to Sharon - she does all the work with the horse," Lyons said.

"This is a dream come true for me. I picked this race out at the start of this preparation and to win it means so much to me."

Lyons is well-bred to be a top-class trainer as his uncle is former champion jockey Peter Cook.

Chris Munce filled in for the suspended Stewart who incurred a careless riding charge aboard Drenalin when the horse finished second at Eagle Farm seven days ago.

Munce had little hesitation in parking Drenalin ($6.50) outside the early leader and the lightly-raced four-year-old dashed clear at the top of the straight and held off a determined Mr Baritone ($5.50) to score by a long head.

Secrets Untold ($19) ran on late to finish a length back third while local galloper Cornwall Park was well supported to start the $4.20 favourite but failed to flatter and finished sixth.

Lyons bred Drenalin and originally sent him to Gerald Ryan in Sydney but the horse broke down after impressing in a trial.

"There was nothing wrong with what Gerald did with him. He had a few issues but has matured now and is perfectly sound," Lyons said.

Lyons said his wife convinced him to nominate Drenalin for the $1 million Stradbroke at the start of his campaign and admitted he might have to raise the bar for the Monashee Mountain gelding.

"I thought he was an Eye Liner or Glasshouse Handicap horse but after today we might have to rethink those plans," he said.
