Two false starts trying to get Beyond Expectation back to the races have trainer John Nisbet on another weather alert ahead of Saturday's Randwick meeting.

"I've had to scratch him twice already because it's been too wet and I'm already worried about how the track will be at Randwick," the Canberra trainer said.

"It's pretty frustrating because the horse looks beautiful and he's fit enough to be competitive in anything I put him in as long as the track is not rain-affected."

Beyond Expectation confirmed he was a duffer in the wet during an indifferent summer and autumn.

Among his failures was a 20-length last in the National Sprint, a Listed race run on a Canberra track hit hard by rain just before start time.

"He had a terrible campaign last time and we decided to pull the pin as quickly as possible because wet tracks aren't for him," Nisbet said.

The five-year-old's lapse at the start of the year was in stark contrast to the form which carried him to Canterbury and Rosehill victories during August and September in 2009.

"When he won at Rosehill, De Lightning Ridge finished third so it's turned out to be a really strong form race," Nisbet said.

Beyond Expectation, a five-time winner from a career limited to 12 starts, has been ready for a return to racing since finishing second to subsequent city winner Macknuckle in a Canberra trial early last month.

Randwick was rated in the slow range at acceptance time on Thursday and showers are forecast for Friday and early Saturday.

Nisbet has booked leading apprentice Tim Bell for Saturday's Clovelly Handicap (1200m).

Beyond Expectations was one of 11 acceptors but the field will be reduced by at least one runner with Barbara Joseph's mare Logan's Choice withdrawn on Thursday.

Logan's Choice pulled up sore after her final track gallop in preparation for the race.

"She has suffered a chipped fetlock and will be retired," Joseph said of the Redoute's Choice mare.
