In-form Queanbeyan-trained mare With Ice will be on trial for a trip to Grafton when she shoots for a hat-trick of wins at Randwick on Saturday.

Trainer Tony Sergi said With Ice, winner of her past two starts at Randwick over 2000m on wet tracks, was being aimed at the Grafton Cup next month provided she runs well again on Saturday in the Benchmark 88 Handicap (2000m).

With Ice won an Open Handicap (2000m) on a heavy (8) at Randwick on May 29 and backed it up two weeks later with victory in a Benchmark 85 over the same trip on a Slow (6).

Sergi was hoping for another wet track on Saturday for the five-year-old mare to show her best.

"The plan is to try and have a crack at the Grafton Cup over 2350 metres," Sergi said.

"It all depends on how she goes on Saturday. As long as she runs well and she gets a run at Grafton we'd like to head that way.

"We've been trying to get a bit of black type behind her and think the best way to do that is on wet tracks.

"We'll be hoping to get some rain at Grafton if she goes there."

Sergi said the way With Ice has finished off her races in her past two starts was what had impressed him the most.

"She's a very competitive mare," he said.

"When a horse comes up beside her she won't give in."

With Ice has 55.5kg for Saturday's race but Sergi has again elected for an apprentice to ride the daughter of Snowland.

In-form apprentice Josh Adams will partner the mare, taking 3kg off her impost.

Adams was aboard two starts back at Randwick when the young rider booted home a winning treble at Randwick's 150th anniversary meeting, while Blake Spriggs had the mount last time.

With Ice has won four from nine on heavy tracks while she has also claimed a win and a second from three attempts on slow ground.

The trainer said With ice had done really well since her last-start win.

"She hasn't missed a beat and is bright in the eye," he said.
