Paul Murray is looking to continue the family celebrations at Randwick on Tuesday after a weekend capped by Coniston Bluebird's New Zealand Derby win.

Trained by Paul's father Bede, Coniston Bluebird grabbed a dramatic last-stride victory in the Ellerslie classic which was run on Sunday, 24 hours later than scheduled after storms lashed Auckland.

Predatory Pricer, who is trained by Paul, put in a pleasing effort first-up in Saturday's Hobartville Stakes when seventh, 3-1/2 lengths from the winner Mic Mic.

He could well clash with Coniston Bluebird in the AJC Australian Derby (2400m) on April 11.

"It was a great win by Coniston Bluebird and it looks as if we may have some competition in the Derby here," Murray said.

"I'm happy with Predatory Pricer. Most of the other horses in the race had already had a start so he was a bit behind them."

For now Murray is in the business of training winners anywhere he can and has set his sights lower with Bopalula who runs in a one metro win race over 1800 metres at Randwick.

The race is a step down from her last start fifth in the Listed Parramatta Cup (2000m) but Murray is hoping she can regain her confidence with the drop in class.

"The Parramatta Cup was going to be her grand final but she really didn't handle the very heavy track," Murray said.

"She has good form on dead and slow tracks and the Kensington surface always has a bit of give in it."

Bopalula has had a frustrating campaign with two seconds and two fourths from her five starts to go with her fifth to Vision And Power in the Parramatta Cup.

Last July she ran the closest of seconds to Nuclear Sky in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) before her fourth to Art Success in the Grafton Cup.

Murray's other runner at the meeting will be Gold Mercedes in the aptly named Universal Prince Handicap (1550m).

Bede Murray trained Universal Prince to win four Group One races including the 2001 AJC Australian Derby.
