Tough campaigner Mr Gilly will fly the flag for trainer Kim Waugh's stable at Warwick Farm on Wednesday with classy mare Risayla to run in Saturday's Listed JRA Cup at Randwick.

Five-year-old Risayla was an acceptor for the opening race at Warwick Farm but will instead get the chance to force her way into the Group One Sydney Cup (3200m) on Anzac Day via the JRA Cup (2000m).

The winner of the race is exempt from any ballot for the Sydney Cup, a race Waugh won in 2005 with Mahtoum.

Risayla was purchased in France where she was a winner over 2500 metres and raced up to 2800 metres before joining Waugh at Wyong on the NSW Central Coast last year.

"She's going very well and the owners were keen to run her Saturday," Waugh said.

"Regardless of her getting a run in the Sydney Cup, we are looking to take her to Queensland for some nice races like the Brisbane Cup."

Risayla was desperately close to beating Divine Rebel when third to her in the Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill on March 28.

Divine Rebel followed up with a win in the Group Two Chairman's Handicap (2600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Mr Gilly, who runs in the Tierce Handicap (1600m), is also in the frame for a trip to Brisbane for the winter carnival.

The shortest trip Mr Gilly has won over was 1850 metres when he broke his maiden status early last year at Newcastle but Waugh is expecting him to go close on Wednesday.

"He's done very well in his trials leading up to this and we think he'll run a nice race," Waugh said.

"Hopefully he comes up well and then he'll go to Brisbane for some nice races like the Queensland Cup.

"He's got form in the wet so the conditions could bring him into the race."

Mr Gilly has not raced since his victory at Randwick on Boxing Day over 2600 metres and has one win from one start on a slow track.

The Warwick Farm surface was rated heavy on Tuesday and if it doesn't improve trainer Greg Hickman said he would most likely scratch impressive last-start winner Bikram.

The three-year-old is in the Encounter Handicap (1300m) and is coming off a three-length win at Newcastle on March 21.

"It would be a shame if we had to take him out because it looks a very nice race for him," Hickman said.
