Mossriver will be a starter at Eagle Farm on Saturday after trainer David Murphy abandoned a back-up plan to send the talented filly to Sydney for the Group Two Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick.

Murphy nominated Mossriver for races in Brisbane, Sydney and the Sunshine Coast this weekend as a precaution against rain which has been forecast for Brisbane.

Murphy has a big opinion of Mossriver and is gearing the daughter of Mossman towards the Brisbane winter carnival staying races.

"When rain was predicted this week I nominated her for the Light Fingers in Sydney and other races at Caloundra and Eagle Farm purely as a precaution," Murphy said.

"I nominated her for two races at Eagle Farm and two races at Caloundra on Sunday but she's running in the three-year-old race at Eagle Farm.

"She needs to run this weekend as she hasn't raced for three weeks."

Mossriver drew barrier 11 in Saturday's Queensland Reds Handicap (1400m) and will be ridden by apprentice Mitchell Wood.

Murphy gave Mossriver a freshen-up following her last-start second to Skating On Ice in a 1200-metre three-year-old race at Eagle Farm on January 22.

Skating On Ice franked the form by again scoring impressively at Doomben last Saturday.

Murphy rated Mossriver's work on Tuesday as first class and is confident the filly will confirm a winter campaign.

"She's still growing and is six months off her best," Murphy said.

"I can't wait until I put her away for a few months and bring her back for the spring.

"She's still learning but she was more on the ball during her work on Tuesday and she's brightened up a lot after I freshened her."

Murphy is keen to see if Mossriver will stay and has pencilled in a Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m) campaign during the Brisbane winter carnival.

"She'll head towards the Princess Stakes and if she goes well there she'll run in the Gold Coast Bracelet," he said.

"The Doomben Roses will be the race which should show us if she can stay.

"If she does she'll go on to the Queensland Oaks but if she can't then I'll bring her back in distance."

The Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) for fillies is at Eagle Farm on April 24, two weeks before the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).

The Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m) will be run at Eagle Farm on June 5.
