BART Cummings is rarely one to make comparisons between his champions of the past and his current team, but the master trainer yesterday had no hesitation in comparing his outstanding filly Faint Perfume with arguably his best female racehorse, Light Fingers, reports The Age & Sydney Morning Herald.
The report adds: As Cummings marvelled at Faint Perfume's condition and powerful eating habits ahead of tomorrow's $1 million Coolmore Classic, his comparison with Light Fingers is indeed high praise, as Faint Perfume is just a three-year-old.
''Yes, they are very much similar in so many ways. But with any racehorse you like to see them thrive at the feed bin. It's one of the best signs that things are good,'' he said.
''She is not any taller but she is a lot heavier. She is a good doer, eats like a stallion. The bigger the appetite the better the ability, I find.''
Cummings is out to win the Coolmore Classic for a fifth time and stablemate Allez Wonder is also a worthy contender for the group 1 feature for fillies and mares, although Faint Perfume may well be the stable elect.
Allez Wonder won the group 1 Toorak Handicap in Melbourne last spring. She has drawn wide in gate 15 in the Coolmore, with Faint Perfume alongside in 16.
''The visitors' barriers,'' Cummings quipped. ''They are very well, worked nice together on Tuesday, not much between them, both are on the up-and-up. It is the ideal distance for the other one [Allez Wonder], she excels at it.''
Cummings has won the Coolmore with Stage Hit (1980), Cordon Rose (1981), Sheraco (1982) and Red Express (1989).
