The star Singapore-based jockey who helped get the best out of Trusting last spring is on target to renew acquaintances with the multiple Group winner on Saturday.

Joao Moreira's first ride on Trusting in last year's Chelmsford Stakes coincided with a return to the winner's circle for the galloper for the first time in two years.

The pair combined for another Group Two success in the Hill Stakes the following start and Moreira is in line for another Sydney cameo to partner him first-up in Saturday's Group Two Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill.

Moreira was in Sydney last Saturday to ride four horses for Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm operation in between riding in Singapore on both Friday night and Sunday afternoon.

Blake Shinn has been aboard the John Thompson-trained Trusting in his two barrier trials but will be in Melbourne on Saturday to partner Jimando in the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes.

"He (Moreira) has had three rides on him for two wins. They seem to hit it off really well," Patinack's racing manager Robyn Hartney said.

"Nathan and John are really happy with the association Joao has formed with the horse."

Moreira's only defeat on Trusting came in the Group One Metropolitan over 2400m.

After Saturday's Apollo, Trusting has three Group One autumn targets on the cards - the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and BMW (2400m).

"That's the number one goal on Nathan and John's mind, to get a Group One win with him (Trusting)," Hartney said.

"He won two Group Twos last preparation so let's hope there's at least one Group One in him this time."

Trusting finished third in an 855m trial last month before closing for second behind Descarado in a 1250m trial last week, pleasing the Patinack team.

"John said it's the best he has ever trialled," Hartney said.

Apprentice Josh Adams has been booked to ride Gathering in the Apollo.

Winner of the 2010 Railway Stakes in Perth, Gathering will progress along with Trusting to the Chipping Norton second-up before his main autumn targets, which could include the Doncaster Mile, are confirmed.

"He will naturally improve on what he does on Saturday, he always takes a bit of racing," Hartney said.

There are 16 horses nominated for the Apollo including seven Group One winners and also rising sprint star Rain Affair.

Trainer Todd Howlett nominated last-start winner Star Of Octagonal but said the gelding would not run this weekend.
