Peter Moody is planning to play a double hand in a bid to win his second Queensland Derby after stablemates Arvan and Star Scream ran the quinella in the So Called Handicap at Sandown.

Both geldings are by Testa Rossa with Arvan notably a brother to 2006 SA Derby winner Testafiable.

Moody, who won the 2008 Queensland Derby with Oaks winner Riva San, said there was little between Arvan and Star Scream, and after a home straight battle, only a head separated them at the end of 1800m on Wednesday.

"Both horses have trained on well with nice steady preps," Moody said.

"If they continue on an upwards spiral, they will both head towards Queensland."

Moody said that being Super VOBIS-qualified horses, they would stay in Melbourne for one more run each over 2000 metres, before targeting the lead-up races to the Queensland Derby on June 12.

Both Arvan and Star Scream have won two of their seven starts.

"They are both by the same stallion and have a lot of similarities," Moody said.

"They will have their next runs here to make sure they qualify for the better races in Queensland in a few weeks time."

Luke Nolen rode Arvan and said Star Scream had regularly beaten him in track gallops.

"He (Arvan) has never won a track gallop against the other one, but when he comes to the races with blinkers on, he finds that length," Nolen said.

He said Arvan only did what he needed to do to win on Wednesday and that he started to pull up when he thought he had done enough to win.

"I thought he was going to win by a length, but I had to get his mind back on the job," Nolen said.

Moody's Queensland team could also include Set For Fame, who is a chance to start in the Listed The Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington on May 15.

"She has freshened up nicely and I'm going to bring her back to the stable next week," Moody said.

"She has a week to please me but everything is positive with her at the moment."

Set For Fame is chasing her first Group One win, after an elevated temperature forced her to miss the Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill last month.

A bleeding attack prematurely ended her spring campaign before the Thousand Guineas, and she finished second to Rock Classic in the Australian Guineas in March.

Moody said the Group One Winter Stakes (1600m) on June 26 would be her logical target.

He said there was a chance she could run in the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke Handicap as a part of her winter program.

Moody's Queensland Oaks' hope is Fairy Oak, who will run in Adelaide on Sunday.
