Trainer John Moloney is hoping his improving Group One record will hold him in good stead with Flying Ruby in the Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville.

Moloney's last two Group One performances were his best with Poet's Voice beaten in a photo-finish by Undue at $101 in the 2007 Oakleigh Plate and Assertive Guest who was $41 when a close fourth in the 2005 Thousand Guineas.

Flying Ruby has been a revelation for Moloney since the spring and earned her trip to Adelaide for Saturday's 1200m Sangster following a win in the Listed Bow Mistress Stakes in Hobart and long neck second to Symphony Miss in the Group Three Mannerism Stakes.

"This will be her last run this campaign so we had to have a crack at it," Moloney said.

Last start the four-year-old Rubiton mare finished sixth to Typhoon Tracy in the Group Three Schweppes Trophy at Flemington but found the track too hard.

"It was hard to make ground on the track that day," Moloney said.

"She virtually had to make her run from last and she did well to get within a length of second against the pattern."

Moloney hopes the Sangster for fillies and mares will deliver the hot pace it promises with a capacity field of 20.

Flying Ruby has drawn barrier 11 which Moloney believes offers her a good chance of performing to her best.

"She is a backmarker sprinter so I hope there is good speed in the race," Moloney said.

"If they get going early she should be able to land midfield, not too far off them, and get home.

"She can run some great sectionals."

The winner of six of her 17 starts, Flying Ruby is $18 with TAB Sportsbet while the Danny O'Brien-trained mare Absolut Glam ($4.20) is being challenged for favouritism by three-year-old filly Champagne Harmony ($4.60).

Flemington trainer Mark Kavanagh is hoping to pull off a Group One double in his former home town with Champagne Harmony and Lamarr, who is the $3.60 second favourite for the Australasian Oaks (2000m).

Last-start Kewney Stakes winner Gallica, who won the Thousand Guineas in the spring, is $2.30 favourite.
