She's seven years old and it's been 18 months since she won a race but Moderna just can't convince her trainer she is ready for life as a broodmare.

"I keep waiting for her to put in a couple of bad runs so I can retire her," Warwick Farm-based Peter McGregor said.

"But she keeps running good races so I'll keep her in work."

Moderna will try to keep retirement at bay once again she lines up in the Rosehill TV On Youtube Handicap at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Moderna takes on only seven rivals in the 2800m marathon but McGregor says she will still need a precise ride from 1.5kg-claiming apprentice Blake Spriggs.

"She's got a good turn of foot for a furlong (200m) so I usually tell the jockey to make sure her last 200 metres of the race is her best," McGregor said.

Moderna raised hopes of another city win with a solid-finishing fourth to Essence Of Success over 2200m at Warwick Farm last month.

"I think she probably would have finished third except for some interference," McGregor said.

"She's had a few goes over Wednesday's distance and has been placed twice and it looks the right race after coming back from Saturday class.

"She's won two city races but it would be nice to win another one because when we were buying her we thought we were getting a country wet-tracker."

Fellow Warwick Farm trainer Rick Worthington is sweating on a scratching so promising galloper Have One On Me can start a light spring campaign.

The winner of two races from just three starts, Have One On Me is listed as the emergency for the Ascot Club Handicap (1100m).

"I very much want to run him because the plan is to give him one or two starts and then freshen him up so mentally he can get set up for the autumn," Worthington said.

"Mentally he is still very backward and it would be easy to overcook him at this stage of his career."

If he gains a start, Have One On Me will be stepping out for the first time since an all-the-way 1400m win on a soft track at Warwick Farm in January.
