Vision And Power was the revelation of the autumn and now his trainer Joe Pride has sprung a minor surprise of his own.
The dual Group One winner will be one of two runners for Pride in Saturday's feature Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick and while Vision And Power might be the stable star, it is Miss Marielle who Pride believes can come up trumps.
"If I had a dollar in my pocket I'd have it on Miss Marielle rather than Vision And Power on Saturday," Pride said.
"There's no better time than the present to run her in a race like this.
"She's fit and well and coming up against horses who are still in the early stages of their preparations."
Pride made his statement despite the fact Vision And Power will be returning to the scene of his greatest triumph.
He won the Doncaster Mile over the Chelmsford course and distance, although he will be tackling Saturday's Group Two assignment at just his second run from a spell.
Pride said he was happy with Vision And Power's first-up eighth to Trusting in last month's Warwick Stakes given the track was harder than the seven-year-old preferred.
The gelding has continued to please Pride since, but so has Miss Marielle.
Formerly trained in Victoria, Miss Marielle has been placed in two of her three starts for Pride, including a last-start second to Moti in the Listed Toy Show Quality (1400m).
She will be out to expand on the good recent record of mares in the Chelmsford with Gallant Tess, Nevis and Unearthly winning three of the last four runnings.
"She's a valuable breeding commodity. She's won two Listed races and she's by Encosta De Lago so she's not in work to win average races, she's in work to win a nice race," Pride said.
Peter Robl will stick with Miss Marielle while regular rider Jim Cassidy will again be aboard Vision And Power, although there will be a minor adjustment to the gelding's gear.
"I've taken the glue-on shoes off and the standard racing plates will be back on," Pride said.
"I figured with the hard ground they (glue-on shoes) would be better off for his feet.
"It's not a great difference, just a slight tweaking."
Vision And Power is one of four Group One winners nominated for the Chelmsford along with AJC Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor, Triple Honour and Teranaba.
One galloper who won't be taking his place is late entry Pre Eminence.
Trainer Mick Price said he was not happy with the Alister Clark Stakes winner and Pre Eminence would not be making the trip to Sydney.
