Much-improved mare Miss Maren could head to New Zealand for the Group One $NZ1.2 million Kelt Capital Stakes at Hastings on October 3 if she can win Saturday's D'Urban Quality at Caulfield.

The Stravinsky five-year-old hasn't measured up at the highest level in four tries in Australia but is nevertheless building up an impressive record having won five of her last six starts.

She defeated Raffaello and D'Urban rival Light Vision when she made it four straight in winning the Group Three Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield three starts back in April.

She bounced back after her 12th to stablemate Pompeii Ruler in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick with an impressive victory over Bonindi when resuming over 1600m at Caulfield on August 15.

It was that win that got trainer Mick Price thinking that Miss Maren, who is owned in New Zealand, could be up to the weight-for-age Kelt run over 2040m.

"It's a million-dollar race so I'll give it plenty of thought," Price said.

Glen Boss takes over the reins on Miss Maren in Saturday's Listed 1700m race, replacing apprentice Jason Maskiell who rode the mare brilliantly to score last start, in what is a non-claiming event this time.

Boss has ridden Miss Maren twice and was aboard when she won the Easter Cup.

Miss Maren, who had her first start in New Zealand as a two-year-old before joining the Price stable, struggled for form last year when a membrane grew over her epiglottis.

But her form improved out of sight last preparation after having laser surgery to remove the membrane.

"Now we are seeing her real ability," Price said.

"She's trained on well since her win first-up, but what she does on Saturday will go a long way to telling us how far she can go this spring."

Miss Maren, who has drawn out in barrier 13 in the 16-horse field, is $3.80 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Light Vision ($5.50), Miss Scarlatti at $7, Vandalo ($8) with Rubijon and the Price-trained mare Running Riot next at $10.

The Robert Smerdon stable will rely on Light Vision after scratching Driffield Gold who drew the outside barrier.
