Gary Portelli has long believed Mirrasalo could develop into an Oaks filly and he will go a long way to finding out if he is right at Rosehill on Saturday.

Mirrasalo will put her AJC Australian Oaks credentials on the line when she clashes with the likes of Faint Perfume in Saturday's Group One Vinery Stud Storm Queen Stakes (2000m).

Champion jockey Darren Beadman, in Sydney to partner Hinchinbrook in the Golden Slipper, has been booked for the mount.

"From the day I bought her I thought she could be an Oaks filly," Portelli said.

"You only have to look at her to see she's got class written all over her, she's a rangy type and she's out of a good mare.

"I think she's got the potential based on her pedigree and hopefully Darren can help get her over the line."

Mirrasalo is by Redoute's Choice out of dual Listed winner St. Therese who was fourth to Dandify in the 2001 Moonee Valley Oaks (2040m) and sixth to Lady Mulan in that year's Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m).

She followed a second-up win at Canterbury with an eye-catching nose second to Slapstick in the Group Three Keith Nolan Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange last Sunday week and Portelli doesn't expect the 2000 metres of Saturday's race to pose any problem.

"I was over the moon with her run at Kembla but I was disappointed she didn't win, she deserved to," he said.

"I liked the way she hit the line but it's A-grade this weekend and she's got to take the next step."

There are 21 entries for the Storm Queen Stakes, one of the major lead-up races to the AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 17.

They include the first three fillies in TAB Sportsbet's Oaks market - Faint Perfume, the $5 favourite for the Oaks, Valdemoro and Run For Naara who was a good third to Zabrasive in the Rosehill Guineas.

Also there are Hurtle Myrtle, Australasian Oaks second placegetter No Evidence Needed, Slapstick and boom Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Once Were Wild.

Mirrasalo is a $51 chance for the Oaks which Portelli will be striving to win for the second time following the victory by Rena's Lady three years ago.

That was the popular trainer's first Group One victory and he claimed another earlier this year when Gold Trail took out the Railway Stakes in New Zealand.

Gold Trail had a barrier trial at Rosehill on Monday and Portelli confirmed he would have his next start in next month's Group One Galaxy (1100m).
