Boredom is the next challenge facing injured jockey Kerrin McEvoy who has two months left in a body brace before he can begin any form of rehabilitation.

McEvoy suffered an injury to his T6 vertebra in a fall from Skytrain during the Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on June 23.

He attended an adjourned inquiry into the race on Wednesday which found no rider responsible for the incident in which apprentice Alex Stokes also came off her mount Newton's Rings.

After a month keeping his upper body and neck as still as possible, McEvoy admitted it was a hard adjustment.

"The funny thing about doing nothing all day is not being able to sleep at night," McEvoy said.

"I saw the doctor yesterday and the X-rays are good.

"There will be more X-rays at the end of the two months then I'll be able to start physiotherapy.

"The most I can do is gently kick a soft ball with my son Charlie."

While the spring carnival is out of play, McEvoy is hoping he will soon be able to return to Darley's Crown Lodge stable at Warwick Farm for light duties.

"I've spoken to Peter (Snowden) and I'm going to go out to the stables for one or two afternoons a week to keep in touch with things," he said.

"Even when the brace comes off I know I can't rush things.

"I've spoken to Damien Oliver who had a similar injury but his required surgery.

"He told me the hardest thing is getting your core strength back and I can already feel that I am losing that strength."

Snowden is on the verge of celebrating his first Sydney trainers' premiership while McEvoy's season ended with 60 metropolitan winners.

He also rode three Group One winners - Denman for Darley in the Golden Rose and the Chris Waller-trained stablemates Danleigh (Manikato Stakes) and Metal Bender (Doomben Cup).
