Trainer Tony McEvoy says former Sydney galloper Rockwood is in a good frame of mind for Sunday's Lord Stakes at Caulfield.

The Rock Of Gibraltar six-year-old has had only two starts in Adelaide for McEvoy and goes into the Listed 1700m feature as a last-start winner over 1400m at Morphettville on December 4.

"The old fellow seems to be very interested and happy at the moment and I thought he did a very good job to carry 60kg and tough it out in what I thought was a very handy quality handicap for Adelaide standard," McEvoy said.

"This race is a nice progression up to the 1700 metres and back to Caulfield where he's run second in a Toorak Handicap a couple of years ago.

"It looks a pretty strong race. There's a couple there, Wind Shear and Aloha, in great form but I think Rockwood is ready to run a peak race for this preparation really."

The former Gai Waterhouse-trained galloper won the 2008 Group Three Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Randwick and the following spring was runner-up to Alamosa in the Group One Toorak (1600m).

The gelding has drawn barrier seven in the small field of eight.

"I'm very excited and thrilled to have Luke Nolen on board so it will be his job (how to ride him) but he'll go forward I would have thought," McEvoy said.

Rockwood was accompanied on the float to Melbourne on Friday by stablemate Foxham who will run in the Ken Sturt Hcp (1400m) and will be ridden by the in-form Ben Melham.

McEvoy said Foxham was very much in doubt of getting a run as second emergency in the Listed Christmas Hcp (1400m) at Morphettville and so he elected to bring him to Caulfield.

A last-start Morphettville 1800m winner on October 30, Foxham has been freshened up but McEvoy said he wasn't at his right trip yet.

"He's had eight weeks between runs and I'm setting him towards the Hobart Cup," he said.

"The horse is fantastic, he's very fresh and well and I think he can run in the top four."

McEvoy is training at Kildalton Park, a section of Lindsay Park, Angaston, purchased by McEvoy and his business partner Wayne Mitchell.

McEvoy, who spent 33 years working at Lindsay Park for the Hayes dynasty, won the 2003 Cox Plate with Fields Of Omagh as head trainer when David Hayes was based in Hong Kong.

The McEvoy-Mitchell Racing venture has made a confident start with McEvoy preparing eight city winners in Adelaide this season which places him eighth on the trainers' list headed by Lloyd Kennewell (14 wins).

McEvoy has trained 14 winners in South Australia since September 1.

"It's been a great start. We've just taken some small steps and placed the horses well and they've run beautifully for us so I couldn't be more pleased with how it's started out," McEvoy said.
