Fastnet Rock filly Lone Rock may head to next month's Adelaide Magic Millions 2YO Classic after an impressive debut win at Sandown.

Trainer Robert Smerdon said he wasn't expecting too much from the two-year-old filly in the four-horse Bramerton Plate (1000m) and was a little surprised that she was able to win on Wednesday.

"She is a nice filly but we probably came here with expectations that there was a lot of improvement still in her," Smerdon said.

"I wasn't going to be disappointed with whatever we saw today so I am pretty encouraged with what has happened."

Ridden by Luke Nolen, Lone Rock was last early but she charged the last 100 metres to beat the stakes-performed Across The Moon by short neck and Encosta de Lago filly Tohaveandtohold, who made her debut for Danny-O'Brien.

Smerdon said that Lone Rock had no more than one more run in her this autumn and was hopeful of getting her to the $200,000 Adelaide Magic Millions at Morphettville on March 8.

"It is going to be a bit quick going to 1200 metres with that race 12 days away but it is not out of the question," Smerdon said.

A $75,000 yearling, Lone Rock is from the same family as stakeswinners Galapagos Girl and Procrastinate.

Meanwhile, David Hayes is excited about the prospects of another Fastnet Rock filly Free Spirited who found another gear to win the Cap D'Antibes Handicap (1000m).

After finishing second at her Geelong race debut in September she was outstanding winning first-up at Morphettville and went to another level on Wednesday when ridden by James Winks.

Off The Planet looked set to win in the straight but Free Spirited flew past her to score by 1-1/4 lengths with Bambina 2-1/2 lengths away third.

"I think she is a filly going places," Hayes said.

He said the Listed Moomba Plate (1100m) at Flemington for three-year-olds was a nice race to aim her at on March 6.

"I always thought she would be a black-type filly but maybe at mile (1600m), but the way she won today she might pick one up before that."

Hayes was also pleased to see Wookah win his first race since being gelded last year.

The Encosta De Lago four-year-old who ran fifth to Rebel Raider in the 2008 Victoria Derby, struggled as he got older as a colt but recaptured some of his old brilliance to land the Redoute's Choice at Arrowfield Stud Handicap (1400m) at his first run for the year.

Hayes said Wookah, whose only other win was at Cheltenham in September 2008, had a campaign last spring as a gelding but it wasn't until this preparation that he settled down to his new life.

"He is a true gelding now," Hayes said.

Ridden by Steven Arnold, Wookah powered to a 1-1/4 length win over Kaleske and Lone Command.

Hayes landed a treble for the day when three-year-old colt Cross Street, who has been plagued by shin-soreness for most of his career, landed the Barfleur Handicap (1400m).
