Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra are looking to test lightly-raced mare Star Of Giselle as they wind her up for the better spring races.

The four-year-old will have only her fifth race start in Saturday's Group Three Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield after injury impacted on the start of her racing career.

She has won two of her three runs this campaign at Geelong and last start at Flemington and with luck could have also won at Caulfield two starts ago.

Her improving record is no surprise to the stable which has taken its time getting her right after she suffered a hip problem before she raced, and pulled up sore after her race debut when she finished last at Seymour in February.

"She's a really nice mare," Zahra said.

"She has had her problems but it was just a matter of getting her through them.

"It took about 12 months to get her right and she is back on track now.

"Saturday will give us a better guide on her but her sectionals suggest she is up to it."

Ellerton said Star Of Giselle was a mare going places.

"She has a scrappy little action and she's got a bit of bottom to her yet," Ellerton said.

The way she finished off after looking beaten at Flemington impressed him.

Star Of Giselle was coming back from 1200 metres to 1000 metres after going down in a photo-finish to Biancon Rose at Caulfield on July 16.

Ellerton and Zahra both felt that the being drawn in the outside barrier cost her victory that day.

The Cockram is rich in talent and Star Of Giselle has attracted plenty of interest with TAB Sportsbet at $12 after touching $13.

The Peter Moody-trained Mid Summer Music is an easing favourite from $3.60 to $4.40 while her stablemate Do Ra Mi is easily the best-backed runner, in from $11 to $7.

Second favourite Parables, winner of three of nine starts, has also been a firmer from $6.50 to $6 and has pleased the Peter Snowden stable.

Last start she won the Group Two Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm after an encouraging third to Obsequious in the Group Two Light Fingers (1200m) at her only other autumn run.

"She has felt the benefit of a light preparation last time in and has trained up nicely to race well first-up," assistant trainer Paul Snowden said.
