Trainer Bevan Laming is confident Ringa Ringa Rosie can win the Group One TJ Smith at Eagle Farm but he'd gladly swap a victory to clear his name in the long-running EPO saga in Melbourne.

Ringa Ringa Rosie is equal favourite at $3.70 for Saturday's 1600-metre feature following her brilliant Listed Hampden Stakes win at Doomben and last-start third in the Listed Doomben Slipper last month.

A furious Laming is running out of patience and has vowed to take on Racing Victoria which is yet to name a date for a hearing of 10 charges laid against him and son Richard after two positive swabs to the banned substance EPO last year.

"We've been waiting since January 5 and we haven't heard from Racing Victoria in months," Laming said.

"There was supposed to be a meeting on April 12 and Racing Victoria put it off.

"A date was then supposed to be set for May and it's now June and we've heard nothing.

"I sent a letter two weeks ago demanding they drop all charges and they said they were still carrying on with their inquiries.

"The testing took place on June 11 last year and a year has gone by since then."

The father-son combination was charged by stewards as a result of an investigation into their horses Benelli and War Dancer testing positive to the banned substance darbepoetin alfa, which is a synthetic form of erythropoietin (EPO).

It was the first time the drug, which is banned under Australian racing rules, had been confirmed in a thoroughbred in this country.

Racing Victoria stewards alleged both horses were found to have EPO in their systems when randomly tested out of competition on June 11 last year.

Benelli tested positive a second time when tested out of competition the following month.

In October last year, RVL informed the Lamings that HFL Sports Science in Britain had completed its analysis of the referee blood sample and it was positive to EPO.

Despite the cloud over the Lamings, the Jacobs Well-based trainer is looking forward to the TJ Smith and the Group Two Brisbane Cup with Crossthestart.

Both horses will be ridden by Chris Munce who has been associated with Laming since they teamed to win two Brisbane Cups with Desert Chill in 1995 and 1997.

"I think Ringa Ringa Rosie is the best filly I've ever trained," Laming said.

"I Am A Ripper was my best filly until now. She won a two-year-old series in Queensland with a $100,000 bonus which a lot of people have forgotten.

"I Am A Ripper also won the (Group Two) Champagne Stakes and (Group Two) Angus Armanasco in Melbourne but I think this filly is better because of her attitude."

Laming rates the Chris Waller-trained Pressday as Ringa Ringa Rosie's main danger in the TJ Smith which will be her last run before spelling to prepare for the Melbourne spring.

Ringa Ringa Rosie will be set for the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield in October.

I Am A Ripper finished fifth to Shizu in the Thousand Guineas in 1999.
