Form runner Delago's Lad will be a significant Blue Diamond market mover if he can run up to his debut performance and break through in Saturday's Routley's Plate at Sandown.

TAB Sportsbet has the exciting Delago Brom gelding at $51 for the Blue Diamond despite finishing second to the highly-talented Sepoy at his only start in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on October 3.

Sepoy, who scored a length victory in the Maribyrnong Trial, franked the form at his second start when he rocketed to Diamond favouritism with a scintillating 3-1/2 lengths win in Wednesday's colts and gelding Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield.

Trainer John McArdle said the form line was encouraging and was expecting Delago's Lad to run well on Saturday, although mindful of the unknown being up against 11 unraced two-year-olds.

"Obviously he (Delago's Lad) has to make the same improvement that (Sepoy) did but it's always good to see that kind of form around your horse," McArdle said.

"He has progressed from his first run and he has grown and got bigger but the distance is the biggest danger for him on Saturday.

"I think he will run a nice race but it looks to be a hot field and 1000 metres might be a bit short for him."

Delago's Lad is at $8 to win the Routley's Plate while the much-hyped Sydney raider Boys On Tour, who is making his race debut, is $2.60 favourite ahead of the Peter Moody-trained debutante Soul Mama ($5).

Another first starter, Bolisimo Miss from the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra yard, is at $6.50.

McArdle said Delago's Lad would get the chance to prove he was Blue Diamond quality in the $250,000 The Inglis Premier (1200m) at Mornington on February 16.

"If he went well in that race he would go to the Blue Diamond 10 days later," McArdle said.

Preview winners Sepoy ($4.80) and One Last Dance ($6.50) are the Blue Diamond market leaders.

Boys On Tour is at $13 and has been under the spotlight since winning a Randwick barrier trial by 5-1/2 lengths on September 20.

He was offered as a yearling at the Gold Coast Magic Millions sale but was retained by Patinack Farm after being passed in $30,000 below his reserve of $220,000.

The David Hayes-trained Mazij and Oamaru Rose, trained by Wayne Nichols, are the only two-year-olds with exposed form apart from Delago's Lad.

Mazij is by Boys On Tour's sire General Nediym and was third at her only start at Morphettville in October while Nichols said Oamaru Rose got lost racing up the straight for the first time when sixth to Spectrolite at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

"I am pretty happy with her and she's a nice filly with a heap of natural talent," Nicholls said.

"Flemington was only the second time she had been in a barrier with another horse and you would think she would take natural improvement from that."
