Trainer John McArdle remains cautiously optimistic about the prospect of Delago's Lad making it to the $1 million Caulfield Guineas.

McArdle said that while the three-year-old had got bigger he still needed to furnish and the Guineas may come too soon for him.

"We are aiming at the Guineas providing he stands up," McArdle said.

"He's got tall and he's got long but he hasn't put on a huge amount of weight."

Delago's Lad will again be ridden by Chris Symons in Saturday's Group Three McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

The Delago Brom gelding has had six starts, his most recent when first-up in the Listed Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield where he finished fourth to Sepoy on August 13.

It was the third time he had clashed the with the Golden Slipper winner after running him to a length at his race debut in the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington in October and then finishing sixth to him in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Last start he was never a threat to Sepoy in the Vain but he may have filled a minor placing had he got a clearer run in the straight.

"With a bit of luck he might have finished a bit closer but it was a good starting point," McArdle said.

"The good thing is that he didn't lose the amount of weight I thought he would.

"What he lost he has put back on and he's done well since.

Delago's Lad only win was over 1000 metres at Sandown but McArdle said he would be better suited as his races got longer.

"It is a solid field on Saturday and the 1200 metres is still a little short for him," McArdle said.

"He will get back but he should hit the line hard."

The Danny O'Brien-trained Decircles has been scratched leaving a field of 11 with the Bart Cummings-trained Do You Think best supported, firming from $5.50 to $4 favouritism with TAB Sportsbet.

The Peter Moody-trained Metonymy has also been well backed, firming from $7 to $4.80, while stablemate Golden Archer, who opened favourite at $3.50, has eased to $4.20.

Last-start Quezette Stakes winner Satin Shoes is at $5 with Glissade at $7 and Delago's Lad at $10.
