Winning form has been a good guide to the Sandown Guineas but it may work against the heavily-supported favourite Kidnapped.
The three-year-old, who will be joined by stablemate Khas Kura in Saturday's Group Two feature, needs to break a lengthening drought for Carbine Club Stakes winners to claim victory.
While 18 winners of the Carbine Club have contested the Guineas in the last 20 years, only four have won both races with the last being Over 10 years ago.
Trainer Peter Snowden said there was little between Kidnapped and Khas Kura who earned a crack at the race after beating graded three-year-olds over 1400 metres last Saturday at Randwick.
"They are very similar in ability but Kidnapped's whole preparation has been guided towards this race," Snowden said.
On Friday, Centrebet reported strong support for Kidnapped who tightened from $2.75 to $2.60 while TAB Sportsbet had him solid at $2.25.
Khas Kura was $4.60 with TAB Sportsbet but marginally easier at $4.70 with Centrebet.
Significantly, 11 of the last 20 Guineas winners had won various races at their last start, which helps support a case for Khas Kura.
Snowden said Khas Kura was educated in Melbourne and made his unplaced race debut at Flemington before winning his only other start as a two-year-old at Canterbury.
While Kidnapped has won three of his eight starts, Khas Kura has a promising record of two wins and two seconds from his five starts.
"His win in Sydney last Saturday was very dominant and the mile (1600m) looks ideal for him," Snowden said.
A son of Lonhro, Khas Kura will be ridden by Mark Zahra while Kerrin McEvoy keeps the mount on Kidnapped after winning on him at his last two starts including the Listed Jayco Stakes at Caulfield.
Khas Kura led all the way at Randwick and Snowden expects that in the run he will be in front of Kidnapped who is a backmarker and noted for his strong finishes.
Last year Snowden won the Guineas with Caymans who had finished fourth in the Carbine Club.
The Darren Weir-trained Disco Summit, who finished second to Kidnapped, is the only other runner coming through the Carbine Club this year.
Turf Express ((Myer Spring Fashion Stakes), It'llbefantastic (Hilton Stakes), Majestic Music (Lexus Hybrid Stakes) are other last-start winners in the Guineas.
Majestic Music is the only filly in the race and would be the ninth to win since 1970 and the first since Cayambe in 2005.
