Former South Australian sprinter Keltah will line up for his fourth stable when he makes his race debut for Geni Gillis at Sandown.

Gillis is hoping to share in the success with the rising eight-year-old in the coming weeks after the entire won a total of seven races for Mount Gambier's Ricky Bruhn and Adelaide trainers Mark Minervini and Lloyd Kennewell.

"He's an old fella but a nice horse and we are just going to feel our way with him," Gillis said.

Keltah was sent to Gillis after the owners decided to give him a campaign in Melbourne following his last start dead-heat for third in the Listed Christmas Handicap (1450m) at Morphettville on Boxing Day.

Gillis said her preference was to find a midweek city race for Keltah's first run for her but when next Wednesday's meeting at Sandown was transferred to Sale she decided to take her chances with him in Saturday's Triforce Australia Handicap (1200m).

"I didn't want to start him off on a Saturday but it has worked out that way," Gillis said.

She said "wear and tear issues" had limited Keltah to just 25 starts but he gave her the impression there were still good times ahead for him on the track.

"He has definitely earned his trip over here from Adelaide and, you never know, he might be able to pick a nice race.

"We will assess him after this run which is going to tell us a lot about him.

"He is feeling well and looks good and whatever he does first up he is going to improve on."

Among Keltah's best runs was his second in the 2007 Balaklava Cup (1600m).

He also finished a close fourth to Sonic Quest, Pinnacles and Amerryking in the 2007 Perri Cutten Classic (1400m) on Caulfield Guineas Day.

Gillis said there were plenty of options for Keltah and she was keen to get him up in distance.

"The way he works a mile (1600m) will be perfect for him because he is a very laid-back horse," Gillis said.

Craig Newitt will ride Keltah on Saturday and Gillis believes his vigorous riding style will suit the horse.

"He is a horse who likes to get back and doesn't go until you ask him and Craig will certainly let him know when it is time," she said.
