Katie Lee has the Graeme Rogerson stable happy as she prepares for Sunday's $1 million Karaka Classic for two-year-olds at Ellerslie.

Katie Lee has impressed with her ability in stringing together two wins and three seconds in the five starts she has had since her career began in late October.

She could not have been more impressive at her last start, beating Sacramento by three lengths in the Group Three Eclipse Stakes over Sunday's distance of 1200m at Ellerslie on New Year's Day.

That and Rogerson's comment after the race that she would win the Karaka Million "by a street" has inspired plenty of monetary support and she was $3.20 favourite on the TAB on Saturday.

Co-trainer Scott Lucock said all was well with the Pins filly heading into the Listed feature.

"We are very happy with her, she is as fit as we can get her and her work has been terrific," he said.

Katie Lee had a tendency to get back in the running which had cost her victory in some of her placed runs.

Lucock said Michael Coleman, who has ridden her in her last four starts, knew her well and would try to get her in the best possible position from barrier 10.

"What we don't need is any bad luck," he said.

Katie Lee, a $340,000 purchase for leading breeder Sir Patrick Hogan at last year's Karaka yearling sales, had a terrific nature, Lucock said.

"She is very laid-back and intelligent. Nothing worries her, she is quite lazy in trackwork but when you push the button, it is all there," he said.

Lucock respects the Australian visitors, Sarge In Charge and Optimizing, and was mightily impressed with the performance of the Mark Walker-trained King's Ransom in winning the Group Two Challenge Stakes (1200m) at Trentham last Saturday.

"And Bruce Wallace's runner (Mexican Rose) has looked very good too and has not been beaten yet," he said.

King's Ransom was $7.50 third favourite on Saturday, just behind Optimizing on $7.

They have drawn well, at six and seven respectively, but Mexican Rose is drawn one from the outside in the 16-horse field and is rated a $12 chance.
